Spotlight on Clapham: Capital Living

Capital Living is an innovative professional house sharing company, evolving the private shared rental sector with a network of homes primarily in Fulham and Clapham, with a portfolio of properties increasing month on month. The business moved into Clapham North Arts Centre in July 2014 and is meeting a growing demand…

The idea was initially formed by entrepreneur Adam Goff six years ago, when he found on graduation that moving to London wasn’t all that he expected!  The resulting business provides young professionals with a superior way of living in the capital, saving them time and money by providing an all-in-one house share solution.

Included in one monthly bill is room rental, all utilities, council tax, TV with full Sky channels in each room, high speed internet, and even a cleaner with a monthly delivery of all shared cleaning products.

The interview process is prioritised to ensure that like-minded professionals are well matched, and the company now has 200 rooms across 31 properties, ten of which have been added in the last year since moving into their Needspace? office.

Properties are leased from landlords by Capital Living for a minimum 5 year period, with the benefits that the company maintains them to a high standard, there are no void periods and residents are strictly screened to make sure they’re ideal tenants and suitable sharers.

The company’s residents can expect many additional benefits, including insights into the London lifestyle through local knowledge of the city and discounts to restaurants, gyms, and private clubs. In addition, special events are organised every six weeks that regularly attract 60-70 participants and provide opportunities for socialising and networking in a fun environment, such as the recent rounders tournament held on Clapham Common.

“There are definite overlaps between the services we offer to our tenants and the service that Needspace? provides us with here at Clapham North Art Centre,” says Jess Rees, New Membership, Marketing and Events Executive at Capital Living.  “We try to take all of the hassle out of housesharing in a desirable environment, where ambitious people can achieve their goals without the distraction of maintaining their surroundings or the complications of bill-splitting.  Needspace? aims to create communities of like-minded entrepreneurs in high quality surroundings and operates a similarly simple pricing policy.  What’s more, it’s a great location for anyone moving to the capital – as we prove! Of the team currently working from Clapham North Arts Centre, four of us live in Capital Living homes within walking distance of the office and public transport links are really good for anyone travelling a little further.”
